Malaysian Parliament: On utilising satellite technology in Sarawak for black pepper cultivation and production

    Julau MP Larry Sng asked the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities to state whether the Ministry is ready to cooperate with the Department of Agriculture Sarawak in utilising the satellite technology to determine the actual size of black pepper cultivation areas and the production of black pepper in Sarawak.

    Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Wee Jeck Seng claimed that the ministry is always welcome to collaborate with other parties and said to be currently collaborating on a project for crop acreage mapping with Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA).

    The first phase, which is now underway on the Malaysian peninsula, is projected to be completed by the end of the year, with the second phase concluding in 2022 in Sabah and 2023 in Sarawak. In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Sarawak, he also highlighted that several projects have been completed and that others are still in the works.
