Malaysian Parliament: Utilise local technologies and innovations in addressing the problem of roads in Malaysia

    Hulu Langat MP Datuk Haji Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus asked the Deputy Minister of Works how the Government utilise local technologies and innovations such as the Flood Depth Indicator Pole in addressing the problem of roads in Malaysia that are frequently damaged due to floods and other factors.

    According to Deputy Minister of Works YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, several steps will be taken and are being done to use technology and innovation in mitigating road deterioration. First, protecting technology and creativity as intellectual property.

    Secondly, adaptation at the Ministry of Works and Malaysian Public Works Department levels including the use of local technology and creativity in development projects. Furthermore, collaborate with startup businesses to market innovation products to ensure that local inventions are competitive and have the potential to be commercialised.

    Eventually, this would open opportunities for local businesses, notably Malaysian contractors, to serve local market demands through digitisation and be prepared to engage in development projects.
