Staying true to its commitment to “Bringing Life to Ordinary Spaces”, IJM Land is persistent to provide a safe and conducive living environment for those in dire need of help. Led by Mr Chai Kian Soon, Senior General Manager of IJM Land Berhad, the charity programme returned for the 13th year to improve the lives of a 42-year-old single mother, Madam Wan Chew Liean and her four children. Losing her husband suddenly due to lung and heart failure in 2020, Wan has been trying to make ends meet considering her meagre income as a newspaper distributor.

Although having received financial assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), Wan is unable to keep up with the expense of her home after being affected by heavy rain and under attack by termites which left the house in a poor condition.

“We first met Wan and her beautiful family during IJM Land’s Chinese New Year charity programme in 2021 – that was when we discovered that her house was in dilapidated condition and we needed to do something to ensure she and her family have a secure place to live in that is not only cosy but also fully equipped with the basic necessities,” said Mr Chai.

Wan and her family were all smiles when they were gifted with their refurbished home after one and a half months of working on its repairs. IJM Land carried out immense repair work which involved painting, fixing and replacing new roofing, providing a well-equipped toilet and installing a septic tank with underground piping, repairing external timber walls and replacing them with cement sand board, installing precast concrete drain and chain link fencing with gate.

Upon receiving the certificate of completion for their home during the handover ceremony, IJM Land also equipped them with other essential items including a desktop for kids’ learning, electrical items and some groceries as well as face masks to lessen their burdens in these challenging times. Additionally, the property developer also received huge support from its partners, including Golden Hover Group of Companies who contributed furniture items worth RM3,500, FWT Construction Sdn Bhd, Jotun Paints (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Midas Touch PTL.

“Our goal is to identify the crucial ways by which we might open the door to a better life for those who are in difficult situations. We want to make their dreams come true, hence everyone has put their heart into this project to make it a successful one. Nevertheless, we are grateful for our partners as their continuous support and contribution have brought positive transitions to many underprivileged families in Seremban,” Mr Chai concluded.

Closely linked with its motto ‘We Make Good Better’, IJM Land’s Home Rehabilitation programme is its primary Corporate Social Responsibility activity that is carried out yearly. For more information on myHome programme, please visit http://seremban2.ijmland.com/.
