Feeding the community with a healthy appeal

3rd January 2021, Selangor – The rainy weather at Subang Jaya today was delightfully met with a gracious initiative by ‘GrowEatWell’ and ‘What a Waste’. The initiate saw vegetables that were hydroponically produced by GrowEatWell and distributed as packed full ready meals by What a Waste to 409 people at Goodyear Court 2, USJ Subang Jaya.

The queue included the elderly, youngsters as well as young kids.

The distributed packets contained freshly cooked rice, teriyaki chicken drumettes, kangkung, Choy Sum, eggs and other delicious side dishes that were accompanied by bottles of Lipton iced tea. The response was overwhelming with families queuing up to retrieve their portion of the distribution. This included the elderly, youngsters as well as young kids.

According to Marcus Tan, who is the co-founder of GrowEatWell, he and his partner Andy Ng, together with Angela Tan, Alvin Chen and Wong Suet Beng who are the main people behind What a Waste, this initiative has been underway since the early months of the Movement Control Order, sometime in April 2020. The idea was to create a corporate social responsibility programme that would not just benefit the needy, but also to encourage healthy eating.

The free food packet distribution has been taking place every weekend to selected communities that include Goodyear Court 2, Angsana Flats at Subang Mewah as well as Goodyear Court 7.

GrowEatWell produces hydroponic hobby kits to enable people to grow their own vegetable for consumption with a mission to make growing your own vegetables easier and safer for the consumer.
