Eyes on Australia for climate action

The Australian Government are denying responsibility arguing it is a global problem. After a UN human rights complaint is made against them through persistence of a group of Torres Strait Islanders. It is the first case worldwide to link climate change to people’s right to culture and has set a global precedent. The case aims to hold Australia accountable for failing to adequately address climate change, which has directly affected the Torres Strait Islanders way of life, culture and traditions.

The new ways of individual activism seen in Australia over the past year; the lawsuit against large superannuation fund Rest and the ongoing case known as the Torres Strait 8 are examples of individual power against climate change.

It also shines light on the opportunity of individual resiliency to crisis.
