    1. The Philippines has approved Sinovac Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, but the country’s Food and Drugs Agency (FDA) said it would not recommend the vaccine be given to healthcare workers, local media reported on Monday (Feb 22).
    2. Late-stage trial data showed the vaccine had a lower efficacy when used for healthcare workers exposed to COVID-19 compared with healthy individuals aged 18 to 59, said FDA chief Rolando Enrique Domingo.
    3. “According to our experts, (Sinovac’s) vaccine is not the best vaccine for them,” Domingo said in a briefing, referring to health workers.
    4. He cited results of clinical trials of Sinovac’s CoronaVac in Brazil, Turkey and Indonesia.
    5. Sinovac has not been recommended for healthcare workers due to its 50.4 per cent efficacy in healthcare workers exposed to the coronavirus in a Brazilian trial, the Manila Bulletin and Rappler reported.
