Canon has expanded its Cinema EOS and hybrid imaging ecosystem with three new products aimed at filmmakers, content creators and production crews in Malaysia, underscoring the country’s growing role in the region’s digital storytelling economy.
The announcement by Canon Marketing (Malaysia) introduced the EOS C50 Cinema EOS Camera, the CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 Cine-Servo Lens, and the RF85mm f/1.4L VCM Hybrid Lens — tools designed to bridge professional cinema production and hybrid workflows increasingly demanded by Asia’s fast-evolving content landscape.

“With the creative landscape continuing to evolve, Canon is proud to support Malaysian storytellers with tools that combine performance, flexibility and innovation,” said Masato Yoshiie, President and CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia. “From hybrid lenses to professional cinema cameras, these additions empower creators to push boundaries and capture stories with uncompromising quality.”
Compact cinema power
At the centre of the launch is the EOS C50, Canon’s smallest Cinema EOS camera yet. It features a 7K full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV 7 processor, offering up to 7K 60P RAW video, 4K 120P, and 32-megapixel stills. With open gate recording, filmmakers can reframe content for horizontal, vertical or square formats — an advantage for both cinematic productions and social-first creators in Asia.

The camera’s Simultaneous Crop Recording also allows multiple versions of the same shot to be captured at once, streamlining production for teams under tight deadlines. Built for agility, the EOS C50 features a modular design, detachable handle with dual XLR inputs, and extensive rigging options, making it suitable for large productions and fast-paced shoots alike.
New lens options for cinema and hybrid creators
The CN5x11 IAS T R1/P1 Cine-Servo Lens extends Canon’s professional range with its widest-ever 11mm focal length and 100-degree field of view, while delivering 8K HDR optical performance with an 11-blade iris for cinematic results. Weighing just 3kg, it is compatible with both cinema and live broadcast environments, supporting RF and PL mounts as well as advanced metadata standards such as Cooke /i Technology™, ZEISS eXtended Data™, and Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF.

Meanwhile, the RF85mm f/1.4L VCM Hybrid Lens becomes the first medium telephoto option in Canon’s hybrid prime line-up. Thirty per cent lighter than its EF-mount predecessor, the 636g lens caters to filmmakers and photographers alike, offering a bright f/1.4 aperture, clickless iris ring, focus breathing suppression, and robust weather-sealed design.
The lens is also coated with Canon’s Air Sphere Coating (ASC) to reduce flare and ghosting for superior image quality – features especially suited for hybrid creators balancing cinematic and social content.

“These new launches reflect Canon’s deep understanding of the diverse needs of today’s creators and production teams,” added Edward Chang, Head of Image Communication Business Division at Canon Marketing Malaysia. “Whether it’s cinematic filmmaking, dynamic live broadcasting, or intimate hybrid storytelling, we aim to give Malaysian creators the freedom to express their vision without limits.”
Canon’s move highlights the growing demand for professional yet versatile imaging tools in South East Asia, where content creation has become a key driver of both entertainment and digital economies. With streaming platforms, esports, and short-form video booming across ASEAN markets, Malaysia is positioning itself as a hub for creative industries seeking accessible high-performance gear.
