Thrills and excitement at the inaugural Negeri Sembilan Youth Challenge 2023 (NSYC 2023)

    It proved to be an exciting weekend for over 200 young fencers at the inaugural Negeri Sembilan Youth Challenge 2023 at Seremban Prima Mall, Seremban. Hosted by Persatuan Lawan Pedang Negeri Sembilan (PLPNS), also known as Negeri Sembilan Fencing Association (NSFA), the two-day youth event saw entries from all over Malaysia.

    The finals of the competition on Sunday was graced by YAM Tunku Besar Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, together with Pn Rusni Abu Hassan, Honorary President of the South East Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) and President of the Malaysian Fencing Federation (MFF), and YBhg Dato’ Haji Sabuddin bin Haji Sani, Director of Majlis Sukan Negeri, Negeri Sembilan (MSNNS).

    “Congratulations to our winners, as well as all those who took part in this tournament. It was wonderful to see the high level of interest from the young fencers, and I hope this becomes an annual event. Thank you to all the sponsors and supporters,” said YAM Tunku Ali Redhauddin, patron of PLPNS, at the conclusion of the event.

    “I would like to express our sincere thanks to MFF, MSNNS and our venue partner, Seremban Prima Mall, for working with us to make this event a reality,” said Tengku Dato’ Mu’adzam Sadruddin bin Tengku Noone Aziz, President, PLPNS.

    “One of our objectives of holding this tournament is to allow our local youth to compete in a new and different venue, in line with MFF’s objectives to increase the number of local tournaments to be held all over Malaysia. This tournament will also aid our Negeri Sembilan youngsters to prepare for SUKMA 2024, where fencing will again be part of the line-up of compulsory sports,” he continued.

    “We hope that the interest generated amongst the youth of Negeri Sembilan by the NSYC 2023 will build a greater pool of fencers for the state, and ultimately, the country,” he ended.

    “I am pleased to see that there are over 260 entries in this tournament from all over Malaysia, which augurs well for the future of fencing in our nation,” said Pn Rusni Abu Hassan, MFF President. “MFF has always encouraged our member associations to host events in their various states, to widen the reach of this exciting sport and we look forward to seeing other such events in other states soon,” she added.

    “We congratulate the Persatuan Lawan Pedang Negeri Sembilan for the success of the NSYC 2023. Majlis Sukan Negeri, Negeri Sembilan will continue to support sporting events in our state, as it encourages an active and healthy lifestyle amongst our youth, as well as instilling discipline and dedication in our athletes,” said YBhg Dato’ Sabuddin bin Haji Sani, Director, MSNNS.

    The NSYC 2023 saw competition for medals at the Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-15 levels for both girls and boys, in the three fencing disciplines of Foil, Epee and Sabre.
