Negeri Sembilan Youth Challenge 2025 set to attract hundreds of young fencers to Malaysia

The Negeri Sembilan Youth Challenge (NSYC) is set to return for its third edition this June, with organisers expecting a surge in participation from Malaysian and regional fencers.

Scheduled to take place from 21 to 23 June 2025 at Centerpoint Seremban in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, the tournament will feature individual and team events across all three fencing disciplines — foil, epee and sabre — for age groups ranging from Under-8 to Under-17. Notably, team events will be held for the Under-12 and Under-17 categories.

Organised by the Negeri Sembilan Fencing Association (NSFA), also known by its Malay name Persatuan Lawan Pedang Negeri Sembilan (PLPNS), the event continues to receive sanctioning and support from the Malaysian Fencing Federation (MFF), alongside backing from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Majlis Sukan Negeri Sembilan (MSNNS) and various corporate sponsors.

The NSYC has grown into a cornerstone event for Malaysia’s youth fencing scene, especially for emerging fencers looking to test their skills in a structured and competitive setting. Last year’s edition attracted participants from across ASEAN, reaffirming the tournament’s growing regional appeal.

NSYC2024 in July last year had over 330 individual entries and 38 team entries, both locally and from our ASEAN neighbours,” said Tengku Dato’ Mu’adzam Sadruddin bin Tengku Noone Aziz, president of NSFA.

“Following the success of last year’s event, we’ve decided to add a little ‘healthy competition’ with the introduction of ‘Team Trophies’ awarded to Teams with the greatest number of points earned by each club or organisation in the individual events. We’re looking forward to some exciting action at the venue over the three-day competition.”

NSFA operates under the patronage of YAM Tunku Besar Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, and is committed to nurturing fencing talent across Negeri Sembilan and beyond. The association continues to play a vital role in the development of youth athletes, some of whom are now representing Malaysia on the international stage.
