IJM Land illuminates Deepavali celebration for underprivileged families

IJM Land Berhad (IJM Land) has been dedicated to adding colours to the lives of the underprivileged in Seremban over the years, and this year’s Deepavali Charity Cheer Programme is another stamp of IJM Land’s commitment to being a resounding pillar in the community by providing financial assistance and groceries to create a meaningful Deepavali celebration for six underprivileged families.

To better serve the people in Seremban, IJM Land reached out to these underprivileged families to ensure that they too can enjoy and soak in the light of Diyas during Deepavali without having to be burdened with the cost of preparation for a decent celebration. These families are from low-income groups with menial occupancy – some of whom have been familiar faces in the community and are blue-collar workers.

Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager of IJM Land (Central Region) mentioned that they are staunch in their mission for this Deepavali Charity Cheer programme to go the extra mile in  alleviating the families’ financial burdens for an opportunity of a joyous celebration.

“The families we contacted have been playing a supporting role in the communities – their contribution to society as blue-collar workers should be appreciated. Hence, we want to acknowledge them and show how much we value their contribution by lending a helping hand,” said Dato’ Hoo.

Each family received RM1,000 in monetary aid and boxes of kindness consisting of grocery items encompassing rice, cooking oil, flour, cookies and other necessities worth RM600. One of the recipients for the aid was Mr Chandrasegaran, 31, who was involved in an unfortunate traffic accident in 2009 and struggling to maintain a proper job due to his injury. This however, did not stop him from working as casual labour around his community painting houses, cutting grass and doing other menial work before he was able to secure a job in March 2022 as a general waste worker.

Madam Nirmala Devi, 37, a janitor at a secondary school, is another recipient of the programme. She exemplifies the spirit of perseverance as she has been diligent in doing her best to provide for her family and as a contributing member of society. She has also taken on the primary earner role due to her husband’s precarious job situation. IJM Land has also reached out to Madam Dedani, 40, and Madam Mahaletchumi, 34, who are also janitors and are in a similar situation as Madam Nirmala.

“We are constantly looking out for the families here in Seremban as we believe there are a number  of well-deserving individuals who are always working hard to not only provide for their families but also for the community. In line with the spirit of Deepavali, we hope to (re)kindle the spirit of giving and prosperity amongst the families for them to be able to greet the festive season with smiles,” added Dato’ Hoo.

For many years, IJM Land has made it its mission to help the people of Seremban. Since 2010, IJM Land has given over 600 families the gift of creating meaningful and memorable moments with their loved ones. Apart from Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, or Deepavali, IJM Land has always kept the surrounding community in mind by launching numerous community programmes such as the Home Rehabilitation Programme (myHome), Program Mesra Ramadan, Deepavali Charity Cheer Programme, Bantuan Baucar Sara Hidup, Preschool Subsidy Programme, Helping Hands: Homes Initiative, etc. all of which have benefited the people in Negeri Sembilan.
