From tech to airlines, Dzuleira Abu Bakar takes on the role as CEO of SKS Airways, set to disrupt the Malaysian airline industry

Dzuleira Abu Bakar has officially stepped into the role of CEO at SKS Airways, commencing her duties effective 15 September 2023. This appointment follows the announcement made on 26 June 2023. She will take over the reins from the current acting CEO and executive director, Dato’ Rohman Ahmad, who will continue his service on the Board of SKS Airways as executive director.

Prior to joining SKS Airways, Dzuleira was the CEO of the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation (MRANTI). Dzuleira is a visionary leader with more than 20 years of excellent track record in the areas of business transformation, venture capital, entrepreneurship, investments, and the technology industry.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of this dynamic industry. The global aviation scene is experiencing tremendous growth fueled by never before seen demand, and this signals a very strong growth trajectory for airlines in the region. I look forward to leading and growing SKS Airways on the back of this momentum, and capitalising on its full potential as a regional airline,” said Dzuleira.

SKS Airways is moving into the next phase of expansion in the ASEAN region with the introduction of a new jet fleet. In May 2023, SKS Airways had entered into a strategic partnership with Embraer Commercial Aviation and Azorra Aviation Holdings for the leasing of 10 Embraer E195-E2 aircrafts. These new aircrafts represent a critical asset in SKS Airways’ strategy to bolster its regional and international routes.

SKS Airways is confident of strengthening its position as a leading regional airline with this strategic partnership, and it underlines the company’s commitment to elevate its presence and capabilities to better serve its passengers within the ASEAN region and beyond.

The first delivery of the Embraer aircraft is scheduled for January 2024. These E195-E2s will play a pivotal role in SKS Airways’ expansion strategy and will make the airline the first operator of E195-E2s in Southeast Asia. Operating from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport), SKS Airways aims to enhance regional connectivity and reshape the future of aviation.
