[Crisis Update] Thai protestors march to barracks against king’s military power

    1. Thousands of anti-government Thai protesters marched to the army barracks on Sunday (Nov 29) to challenge King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s personal control over some military units.
    2. It was the latest act of defiance against the king by protesters who had broken the taboos by criticising the monarchy.
    3. The Thai constitution states the monarchy must be revered and the laws ban insulting the institution.
    4. Protests began in July and initially demanded for the departure of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, a former military leader, and a new constitution.
    5. Demonstrators have expanded their demands since then to include curbs on the powers of the king.
