Team Singapore bagged 3 medals at World Championships of Performing Arts 2020

According to latest statement, Team Singapore representatives bagged 3 medals at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2020, which showcased remarkable talents of dancers, actors, singers, models and variety artists from 66 countries. The prestigious annual global talent event was held as a virtual contest for the first time, from July 24 till August 2.

WCOPA, often cited as the official “Talent Olympics” for aspiring performers and entertainerscelebrates its 25th edition this year. The live event was originally planned to be held at Disneyland Park, Anaheim, California. Due to the global pandemic, the event took place digitally.

Amongst the award recipients was Singapore’s youngest participant – Ayden Seanady Wong, aged 7, who was awarded a bronze medal in the junior instrumental category. Ronald Maranan won a silver medal in the senior vocal category while Seri Nadhirah received a bronze medal in the senior acting category.

“The incredible strength of national pride pushed each of these contestants to put in their best efforts showcasing their talents to the rest of the world. WCOPA judges praised, in particular, our junior contestant’s impressive abilities and unique showmanship. We hope to bring more aspiring local talents and performers to the world stage next year,” said Anthony Cheah, National Director of WCOPA Singapore.

Sean Wong, PBM, a social entrepreneur and Associate Director of WCOPA Singapore added: “As a performing artiste myself, I have benefited immensely from participating in international arts events, networking and collaborating with other artistes of diverse backgrounds and nationalities. I hope to contribute by leveraging on my network to support the aspirations of our young local talents so that they may continue pursuing their dreams, perhaps even achieving their goals sooner.”

For over 2 decades, invited WCOPA participants representing countries around the world had been competing mostly in Hollywood – the entertainment capital of the world, vying for the coveted gold medals and “Champion of the World” grand titles. Movers and shakers of the entertainment industries of Hollywood, Nashville and New York had served as judges. Popular highlights of an annual WCOPA event included the spectacular opening ceremony featuring a colourful Parade of Nations and the much-anticipated boot camp with educational seminars and workshops by industry experts.

Singapore auditions for WCOPA 2021 are slated to begin this month. Those interested in participating may follow the official Facebook page: WCOPA Singapore or visit www.wcopasingapore.com.
