Trend Micro reveals 82 per cent of Malaysian organisations concerned about growing attack surface

Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), the leader in cloud security, announced the findings of its latest Global Risk Study 2022, which revealed that 82 per cent of organisations in Malaysia are concerned about their growing attack surface. Considering this, Trend Micro introduced Trend Micro One – a unified cybersecurity platform aimed to enhance the security capabilities of businesses today for the future.

According to the study’s findings from over 6,000 information technology (IT) and business decision-makers across 29 countries, organisations struggle to define and secure an expanding cyber-attack surface, hampering risk management efforts.

In Malaysia, the study revealed that:

    • 40 per cent admitted the digital attack surface is “spiralling out of control”, with only 51 per cent able to fully define its extent
    • 71 per cent had blind spots that hamper security, with cloud environments cited as the most opaque
    • On average, organisations surveyed have just 59 per cent visibility of attack surface
    • 75 per cent claimed that being an international enterprise that spans multiple jurisdictions makes managing the attack surface harder

“IT modernisation over the past two years was a necessary response to the ravages of the pandemic, but in many cases, it unwittingly expanded the digital attack surface, giving threat actors more opportunities to compromise key assets,” said Goh Chee Hoh, Managing Director, Malaysia, and Nascent Countries, at Trend Micro. “A unified, platform-based approach is the best way to minimise visibility gaps, enhance risk assessments, and improve protection across these complex, distributed IT environments.”

To help manage the overall cyber risk across local enterprises, Trend Micro announced the launch of Trend Micro One, a new unified cybersecurity and attack surface management platform. The launch is a major step towards consolidating a multitude of security products and features in a single platform, enabling customers to better understand, communicate, and mitigate cyber risks.

Trend Micro’s unified security platform enables organisations to prepare for, withstand, and rapidly recover from threats, with a more empowered security team. The cloud-based solution delivers a continuous lifecycle of complete risk and threat assessment with attack discovery, cyber risk analysis, and threat mitigation and response. Furthermore, expert services such as Managed Extended Detection & Response (XDR) promise better visibility, 24×7 monitoring, and enhanced threat detection and response.

Nilesh Jain, Vice President, Southeast Asia and India, at Trend Micro, shares, “Trend Micro’s platform approach is the product of 30 years of experience and innovation in cybersecurity. We have always been committed to delivering innovative solutions that augment security teams, and that is exactly what we seek to achieve with Trend Micro One – a platform developed by cybersecurity professionals for cybersecurity professionals, so organisations can be their most resilient. By providing cutting-edge technology to help businesses discover the ever-changing attack surface, assess, and prioritise the most pressing risks and vulnerabilities, and subsequently mitigate them, business leaders in Malaysia can focus on driving their business forward, without worrying about security. This is what it means to be truly resilient.”
