Baker Hughes launches Global Sustainability Solutions Center in Malaysia to power decarbonisation

Baker Hughes has officially unveiled its globally centralised Sustainability Solutions Center in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, positioning Malaysia at the heart of a critical global effort to support energy transition through reliable ESG data and services.

Announced during the Energy Asia 2025 conference on Monday (16 June), the Center serves as a dedicated global resource for the verification and dissemination of environmental, social and governance (ESG) data related to Baker Hughes’ technologies and operations across 120 countries. This initiative reflects a growing industry demand for trustworthy sustainability data amid increasing regulatory requirements and voluntary reporting frameworks.

“At Baker Hughes, we are steadfast in our commitment to sustainability, as it provides long-term commercial value through our products and solutions to our customers. As the global regulatory landscape evolves, our Sustainability Solutions Center in Malaysia serves as the bedrock for providing credible and reliable ESG data and services that impacts us as well as our global customers,” said Allyson Anderson Book, chief sustainability officer at Baker Hughes. “We are excited to bring our global expertise in sustainability to Malaysia through our Sustainability Solutions Center to support the country’s energy transition vision.”

The Center is the only one of its kind operated by Baker Hughes, and it marks a significant strategic expansion of the company’s sustainability capabilities in Asia Pacific. With sustainability disclosures becoming increasingly critical to business operations, the Kuala Lumpur-based Center offers a unique advantage by providing timely, reliable and centralised ESG data to help customers meet their decarbonisation goals.

Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, chief executive officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), hailed the launch as a strategic endorsement of Malaysia’s growing prominence in the global clean energy and ESG space.

“This extension of providing ESG-related services reflects the confidence Baker Hughes has in the country,” he said in a press statement issued by Baker Hughes. “It reaffirms the commitment they made to us not just by choosing Malaysia as their Asia Pacific Services Hub, but also to serve and support their entire global supply chain networks…. This aligns closely with the Government’s aspiration in achieving our sustainability and energy transition goals set under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR).”

Baker Hughes has maintained a presence in Malaysia for over 50 years, with its Kuala Lumpur hub now employing more than 1,200 people. Beyond the new ESG-focused Center, the country is also home to one of the company’s three global iCenters, which provide 24/7 monitoring of over 1,000 industrial assets worldwide.

The new Center comes at a time when Asia is ramping up its energy transition efforts. Countries across the region are looking to advanced ESG technologies and data systems to help meet carbon neutrality goals while maintaining energy security. For companies operating in high-emission sectors, such as oil and gas, real-time sustainability data and verified reporting are becoming essential tools.

The launch of the Center in Kuala Lumpur also signals Malaysia’s rising stature in the regional energy dialogue, as it continues to attract high-impact, future-forward investments in clean technologies, digitalisation, and ESG-driven services.

As the Energy Asia event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre continues through 18 June, the opening of Baker Hughes’ Sustainability Solutions Center underscores the broader momentum toward a circular, data-driven economy that values transparency, resilience, and long-term climate stewardship.
