Gecko Digital is a leading international multimedia provider, offering the highest quality HD 360 degree Virtual Reality promotional videography and creative content developed for sophisticated web-based marketing. Gecko Digital’s unique solutions provide a compelling, interactive and immersive experience. The company distinguishes itself from other digital media providers by offering a variety of specialty features and exciting new technologies, ranging from its innovative Virtual Reality Expo to captivating videos and bespoke online marketing campaigns that deliver clients’ content to the audience it deserves.

A 360 degree Virtual Reality aircraft tour is a simulated walk-through tour of a real aircraft (both interior and exterior), usually composed of a sequence of videos and still images stitched together. With immersive 360 degree VR tours of aircraft for sale and/or for charter, prospects need only explore the aircraft digitally in order to zero down on a select few aircraft before needing to visit them physically. This minimises physical interaction between the sellers and the prospects, as well as reducing travelling costs and time for both sellers and buyers.

Aerospace Solutions and Gecko Digital have entered into a collaboration to offer 360 degree VR promotional tours to the global aviation market at the Selangor Aviation Show 2021, taking place from 25 – 27 November 2021 at Skypark Regional Aviation Centre (RAC), Subang Malaysia. This collaboration is supported by ESSOR Aerospace.

The global Covid pandemic has accelerated the need for more digital promotion of aircraft for sale/charter before any actual physical interaction between the prospective buyers and

aircraft sellers is required. Thus, the introduction of Gecko Digital’s affordable 360 degree Virtual Reality tour solution for aircraft for sale or charter at the Selangor Aviation Show 2021 is very timely.

Agoda signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maldives Border Miles Initiative to boost post-pandemic tourism

Maldives Border Miles (MBM), a loyalty program initiated by Maldives Immigration in collaboration with key government stakeholders, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global digital travel platform Agoda, (part of Booking Holdings, Nasdaq BKNG), to boost tourism in the country. The partnership will utilise Agoda’s global network, technology and travel expertise, integrated marketing capabilities, intelligence tools and resources, to optimise traffic/bookings and drive more awareness to the MBM programme.

The agreement was signed on 22nd November 2021, in the presence of John Brown, CEO of Agoda and dignitaries from the Maldives Tourism Ministry, Deputy Minister, Dr Naushad Mohamed, Controller-General of Immigration, Mr Mohamed Ahmed Hussain, and key stakeholders from the Tourism Ministry, Maldives Border Miles, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) the Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC). This marks the first high-level interaction between the Minister of Tourism and the Controller-General of Immigration and Agoda.

A world’s first destination loyalty program for tourists, the free to join, three-tiered MBM program accumulates reward points for travellers to the Maldives based on their accommodation booking and chosen in market activities. Members will need to earn a specific number of points to reach each tier (Aida, Antara and Abaarana), each offering a different range of privileges to its members, which can be utilised during current and return visits to the country.

Under the MoU, the first to be signed by MBM with a global OTA, both parties will mutually agree to undertake shared promotional efforts via branded landing pages, digital promotions via owned channels, special accommodation/booking discounts on Agoda for MBM members, technical consultancy, sharing of expertise and more. The 12-month contract is designed to expand loyalty to return visitors, achieve greater customer acquisition and ultimately reinvigorate the travel landscape in the Maldives.

“The Border Miles program was set up in 2020, to incentivise the post-pandemic return to travel. In less than a year, our member base has grown to over 50,000 signups, half of which have come through in the last two weeks alone. It’s clear that demand is high and our partnership with a global digital platform like Agoda will only accelerate this growth to a much wider global audience, reaching previously untapped origin markets. I believe this partnership will bring prosperity to the program and we have so much to learn from one another and together, we can make this world’s first program truly recognized globally.”, said Mr Mohamed Ahmed Hussain, Controller-General of Immigration, Maldives.

According to Agoda’s inbound search data, the Maldives has seen a 5x uplift (400% increase), since two weeks to prior to the opening announcement on 1 July to date, indicating a clear demand for the destination. The country’s earlier than expected vaccination roll-out and effectiveness of its COVID-related policies has led to the first signs of recovery by July 2021. The governments initial benchmark to bring in 900,000 tourists by the end of the year was surpassed when it hit its one millionth tourist in October.

“We applaud the Ministry of Tourism in Maldives and the Controller-General of Immigration for spearheading such forward-thinking initiatives to aid in the country’s rebound. Agoda strives to be a supportive partner to the governments and communities we operate in, this time in the Maldives, to leverage our technology and robust marketing strategies to help stimulate the tourism economy. We are optimistic of the benefit this will bring to the Maldives’ tourism industry and are honored to play a contributing part in this.”, said John Brown, CEO of Agoda.

The opening was officiated by Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of National Unity YB Senator Wan Ahmad Fayhsal bin Wan Ahmad Kamal; Chief Executive Officer of Global Victoria Gönül Serbest; Victoria’s Commissioner to South East Asia Rebecca Hall; and Australia’s Deputy Head of Mission to Malaysia Hannah Birdsey.

Victoria is a popular study destination for Malaysian students, with approximately 7,700 Malaysian students currently enrolled in Victorian institutions, roughly one quarter currently studying from home in Malaysia due to travel restrictions.

The Victorian Government has chosen Kuala Lumpur as one of the two strategic locations within ASEAN to establish Study Melbourne Hubs as a direct response to the evolving nature of international education in the post-pandemic world.

The Study Melbourne Hub Kuala Lumpur is part of the Victorian Government’s initiative to establish a network of study hubs around the world, boosting Victoria’s connections with overseas students, future students and alumni. The hubs will also promote Victoria’s leadership in education technology (edtech) and innovation.

Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of National Unity, YB Senator Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, said: “As a former academic, the academia holds a special place in my heart. The establishment of the Study Melbourne Hub Kuala Lumpur is not only an avenue for better education exchanges between students, academics, and researchers, but also, for deeper cross-disciplinary collaborations that cover culture, commerce, and industry, among others.

“The establishment of this and similar hubs all over the world is a laudable effort in introducing innovation in the way we deliver education and education solutions. At the same time, it is in line with Malaysia’s effort to place itself as the region’s education destination of choice; as well as to improve Malaysia’s own interconnectivity with the rest of the world’s education ecosystem.

“The Study Melbourne Hub Kuala Lumpur also serves as a testament to the importance the Victorian Government places in Malaysia as an important source of its international student network. It also shows the Victorian Government’s commitment to ensuring that students are well-taken care of and that there is a place for students who are affected by the pandemic to reconnect with their peers and Victorian institutes of higher learning.

“I strongly believe that a university is a place for a person to explore his or her full potential, for a civilisation to prosper, and for our intellect to shape humankind’s true destiny. On this, I congratulate the Victorian Government for taking this momentous step with today’s official launch of the Study Melbourne Hub Kuala Lumpur.”

The opening of Study Melbourne Hub Kuala Lumpur was first announced by Victorian Minister for Trade, the Hon. Martin Pakula, as part of the Victorian Government’s AUD33.4 million International Education Short Term Recovery Plan, with additional funding provided through the 2021-22 Victorian Budget over the next four years.

Chief Executive Officer of Global Victoria, Gönül Serbest, said: “We are so pleased to provide this innovative space that will enhance students’ remote learning experience and ensure our students and alumni in Malaysia stay connected to their education providers and to Victoria.

“The Study Melbourne hubs create meaningful partnership opportunities by bringing together edtech companies, investors, researchers, and education providers searching for new, high-quality edtech solutions.”

Ms Serbest also announced fifteen Malaysian students had received a prestigious Career Catalyst scholarship worth AUD5,000 dollars providing the opportunity to undertake job readiness training and a three-month supported virtual internship with a Victorian company.

The Study Melbourne Hub Kuala Lumpur is designed to provide current offshore students with support and study facilities while promoting Melbourne and Victoria to prospective students in Malaysia. It also offers networking events and activities, access to support services and programmes, and information about Melbourne and Victorian institutions for prospective students.

Victoria’s Commissioner to South East Asia, Rebecca Hall, said: “The Study Melbourne Hub Kuala Lumpur will provide a collaborative physical space for students to engage with one another, their education institution, and gain access to Study Melbourne programs.

“Victoria is the only Australian state or territory to provide its international students with offshore study hubs – the inaugural Study Melbourne Hub Shanghai was launched in April 2021, and another hub is scheduled to open in Ho Chi Minh City next month”.

Growing the international footprint of Study Melbourne will help rebuild and revitalise the international education market. For Victoria, international education is a critical services export and jobs provider that contributed AUD13.7 billion to the Victorian economy and supported around 79,000 Victorian jobs before the pandemic.

Most development, particularly in metropolitan areas, takes transportation into account. In light of the globalisation period, it is clear that advancements in technological sophistication, as well as economic success, have led to a more dynamic population. As a result, there is a growing demand for residential and commercial development in the city centre and its surroundings.

One such solution is TOD (Transit Oriented Development). It is hoped that it would minimise dependency on private autos and encourage public transportation and walking as a way of life in cities.

The MIND-THE-GAP conference aims to explore Malaysia’s public transportation system’s impact on socio-economic progress. The question is, to what degree does connecting city centres to suburbs and each other boost growth?

This conference was intended to investigate the role of various types of public transportation systems, such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), High-Speed Rail (HSR), East Coast Rail Line (ECRL), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and so on, beginning with planning and ending with execution, with an emphasis on the importance of “the last mile” in achieving a fully integrated solution for the people.

David Mizan Hashim, Founder and Group President and Director of Veritas Design Group. “It is imperative to understand the importance of TODs in Malaysian development and the relevance it has towards a sustainable growth towards the future of Malaysia. MIND-THE-GAP will bring expert opinions up for discussion and bring ideas forward that could aid towards the cause – to mind the gap,” said Hashim.

Following his opening remarks, Datuk Isham Ishak, Secretary-General for the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, shared the Transport Ministry’s current transportation plans, followed by a speech by Ts. Syed Mohamad Azani bin Syed Mohamad from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), who touched on the various public transportation infrastructure.

Some of the MIND-THE-GAP speakers: (Top L to R) Mark Staib, Ng Yiek Seng, Chan Chee Kian, David Mizan Hashim, Ahmad Soalahuddin Al-Thani, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ar. Hj. Esa Mohamed, Lee Yen Foong.

Other speakers who graced the virtual stage were Mohd Zaidi bin Sharif who is currently leading the Strategic Planning and Business Development Division of Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) on East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project; Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim who is currently the Chief Executive Officer of MRT Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) who leads the construction MRT Putrajaya Line Project, the RTS Link Project from Johor Bahru to Singapore and the upcoming MRT3 Circle Line Project; Rudyanto Azhar who heads the Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit (IMBRT) team; and many other experts from policy and regulatory, finance, engineering, property development and design backgrounds who shared their perspectives and exchanged ideas for the future. The event ended at 5pm.

The MIND-THE-GAP Conference aims to foster strong collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders as a first step toward fulfilling the goal of a National Transportation Plan 2019-2030. Youth-led Malaysian social enterprise accelerate global raised ECF funds from local and international investors to scale impact amidst global pandemic

            • Accelerate Global is one of only three known social enterprises to raise funds through equity crowdfunding in Malaysia
            • Despite a lengthy global pandemic, Accelerate Global still managed to raise funds above their minimum goal.

Accelerate Global, a youth-led social enterprise tackling youth unemployment issues through upskilling programs successfully raised over RM 470K, above the minimum goal via Ethis Malaysia, the only shariah-compliant ECF platform registered with the Securities Commission Malaysia. This makes them the third only known Malaysian social enterprise that has had a successful equity crowdfunding campaign since 2017, and the only one that has successfully done so during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Their campaign ran for 90 days and had garnered support from 69 investors from around the world including Singapore, Malaysia, China, Italy, Indonesia, Croatia, Australia, Algeria, India, France, and the United Kingdom, putting Accelerate Global on a trajectory to creating sustainable change in the lives of the youths especially those who are marginalised and underprivileged.

Accelerate Global Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Raudhah Nazran says the success of this campaign marks a new chapter for the social enterprise to scale up their impact.

“The funding will be used to digitise all of our upskilling programs and store them onto our very own e-learning platform. We found after running Accelerate for 2 years, most youths are keen to learn but often shy away from the opportunity either due to lack of funding or simply lack time. I knew then that it’s time to convert our live programs to self-paced learning programs and to also roll out our 1:1 ratio business model so no youth is left behind. Thrilling times ahead. My team and I cannot wait to launch this!”.

The 1:1 ratio business model is expected to be a game changer as for every subscription fee paid for, one underprivileged youth will be given access to Accelerate’s programmes. This youth-led social enterprise has been operating for two years and their impact model of developing self sustainable, independent youths and young entrepreneurs are proven given that all of their graduates are now either successfully running their own businesses or have gained employment. To date, they have directly impacted over 5,000 youths cumulatively through all their programs and this number is expected to exponentially grow in the next coming years with the launching of their digital platform.

Accelerate Global also represents the first social enterprise ECF campaign on the Ethis Malaysia platform, underlying Ethis’ ambition to circulate good by offering investors the opportunity to invest in businesses with high social impact.

“Accelerate Global’s fundraising success garnered the support of Malaysians and also investors from 10 other countries. This signifies the strength of their value proposition not only within the country but abroad as well. I am confident that Accelerate Global will continue to grow from strength to strength and expand beyond what they have already done thus far in creating a positive impact on society with their business operations,” says Wan Mohd Dazriq Wan Zulkiflee, the Chief Executive Officer of Ethis Malaysia.

“Ethis will continue to support fundraising efforts for impact driven enterprises and social enterprises such as Accelerate Global for institutional and retail investors, as it goes hand in hand with Ethis’ circulate good ambition in the real economy. For investors, this provides an opportunity for them to amplify their investments beyond monetary returns but also in considerations of investments that create a positive impact on society. As such, that is why it is crucial for us to support Malaysian social enterprises and SMEs in their growth journey so that they can continue to expand and scale their business impact for the greater good of the society and beneficiaries they are supporting. As the backbone of our economy, SMEs and social enterprises such as Accelerate Global are crucial to the growth of the Malaysian economy and the development of the nation’s socio-economic agenda,” he says.

Taylor’s University ranks 53 in Asia; emerges as top Malaysian private university

Taylor’s University is now ranked 53 in Asia according to the QS Asia University Rankings 2022, leaping 36 places from the previous year, and cementing its position as Malaysia’s top private university.

Taylor’s University is now ranked 53 in Asia according to the QS Asia University Rankings 2022, cementing its position as Malaysia’s top private university.

The institution has recorded a jump of more than 140 ranks since 2016 to achieve its meteoric rise, on the back of positive trends in the recent QS Graduate Employment Rankings 2022 and the QS World University Rankings 2022 that saw the university maintain its position as the leading private university in Malaysia and Southeast Asia and placing it at the top 1.1% of the most influential institutions globally.

This recent results show significant improvement in the International Research Network and Citations Per Paper indicators, as well as Academic Reputation. Notably, the university ranks 12th in Asia for the International Students indicator, with nearly 4000 international students from 89 countries, such as ChinaIndonesiaMauritius and Korea.

“We have far exceeded our initial target of breaking into the top 100 in Asia by 2022, and I believe this is an affirmation that strategic foresight in curriculum and culture transformation is essential for education institutions to thrive in this era,” said Taylor’s University Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Michael Driscoll.

“Despite its relatively young age, Taylor’s has proved its adaptability even in challenging times to produce meaningful research as well as foster strong industry networks and a conducive ecosystem that ensures our graduates are equipped with the necessary intellectual, practical and creative intelligences.”

Additionally, the university retained its Top 20 world ranking in the Hospitality and Leisure Management subject in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 earlier this year – making it the only university in Malaysia, and Southeast Asia, to be in the Top 20 ranking. The same rankings also indicated that the Taylor’s Business School is the top private business school in Malaysia for Business and Management Studies.

Taylor’s is also one of few Asian universities awarded the QS 5 Stars rating for Online Learning. The award is testament to the institution’s direction in its teaching and learning approach, where e-learning has taken centre-stage. The unprecedented pandemic has accelerated the university’s latest approach in its new Taylor’s Curriculum Framework and curating a Taylor’sphere ecosystem, developed to hone multiple intelligences and encourage multidisciplinary learning.

SCAHSA was the highlight event of the 16th Annual Session of Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS 2021) that was held in celebration of World Cities Day 2021. Notably, Country Garden Forest City had previously garnered SCAHSA awards for five years in a row, including the Global Model of Coastal Ecological Environment Protection Award in 2020, the Global Green Smart City Award in 2019, the Global Model of City-Industry Integration Award in 2018, the Global Model of Green Building Industrial Park Award in 2017 and the Global Human Settlements Award on Planning and Design in 2016.

10 UN agencies collaborate in hosting the annual SCAHSA

GFHS 2021 aims to unite cities worldwide in the effort to tackle climate change and adopt sustainable development. To date, 25 authoritative organizations are already on board, including 10 major UN agencies, among them the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). The theme of this year’s event is “Accelerate Green Transformation and Innovation Towards Healthy, Resilient and Carbon-neutral Cities”.

Country Garden’s Forest City has been lauded by both judges and guests for its low-carbon green development concept. The project, located in the Iskandar Malaysia Special Economic Zone, Johor, has facilitated the growth of its urban economy through the planning and ongoing establishment of eight key industries based on the concept, with the aim of creating an environmentally responsible, dynamic and multicultural city that can serve as a model for city-industry integration.

Forest City garners the award for its low-carbon green concept that has been lauded by professional reviewers

“Forest City has effectively reduced the urban heat island effect by optimizing the efficiency of CO2 fixation in plants while its urban planning and green building design alongside the city-industry integration concept have come together to facilitate the creation of a green and low-carbon city,” commented Arab Hoballah,Senior Sustainability Expert, former Chief, Sustainable Consumption and Production, UNEP. “In addition, the project has delivered outstanding performance in terms of protecting the coastal ecological environment, building an inclusive culture and applying smart city technologies.”

Forest City has been committed to creating a green dynamic city by promoting low-carbon lifestyles

Forest City has been applying the concept of low-carbon green development to all stages of its urban planning, development and operations since its inception. By adopting a multi-dimensional greening system across applications from the ground to the roof, project directors and engineers succeeded in including a green area of 2.71 million square meters horizontally and some 256,000 linear meters vertically that helped optimize the efficiency of CO2 fixation in plants while reducing the urban heat island effect and the energy consumption of temperature control systems.

Besides, as part of the effort to improve urban resilience and promote environmentally responsible travel, the project provides the local community with smart and convenient ways of mobility through the use of intelligent applications while promoting walking and cycling as forms of travel by building a consistent and green support infrastructure for these healthier modes of transport. In addition, the city-industry integration-based development plan will result in a lower-carbon city by reducing the distance of and the time needed for daily commutes.

Forest City, an advocate of the Sponge City concept, has built five sewage treatment stations with a combined capacity of 170,400 population equivalent. The advanced system for ecological treatment of wastewater coupled with the treatment system for constructed wetlands delivers a higher quality of water than Malaysia’s normal standard CLASSⅡB. Moreover, an independent reclaimed water recycling system has been created for use in roof, vertical and outdoor greening as well as irrigation and the flushing of public toilets.

To date, Forest City has invested more than RM140 million in the aggregate in environmental protection, including the establishment of a seagrass reserve and the implementation of protection and breeding measures. In a move to foster neighboring communities and support regional development, the project has also invested over RM53 million in building communities and villages in the vicinity as well as in funding local schools. Five years in the making, Forest City is taking shape after gradually meeting its phased ecological development goal. Going forward, to better respond to the global goal of carbon neutrality, Forest City plans to continue its commitment to achieving harmony between urban development and protection of the ecological environment.

Agritech business Estet Sepakat, pioneering Islamic fintech Ethis and a Middle Eastern outfit explore a partnership to create the first fintech-based crop takaful for paddy farmers

Agritech business Estet Sepakat Sdn. Berhad, alongside pioneering Islamic fintech Ethis and its subsidiary GlobalSadaqah, and a re-takaful firm specialising in agriculture, are together exploring a Technical Collaboration Agreement to develop a parametric crop takaful plan to benefit more than 200 million paddy farmers across Asia, the key players in improving food security in the region.

This programme is to enable the adoption of efficient and cost-effective methodologies of supporting paddy farmers when they face climate change risks and impact on their crops. Numerous reports have shown that natural disasters are costing farmers in the developing world billions of dollars each year, with drought emerging as the most destructive in a crowded field of threats that also includes floods, forest fires, storms, plant pests, animal diseases outbreaks, chemical spills and toxic algal blooms.

“Besides a significant pillar of Malaysian agricultural production, the rice sector is also an important source of employment, on top of being a daily staple food and a major source of calorie intake in the country. Despite this, paddy farmers are not equipped with the proper safeguards within their fields,” says Badardin Ahmad, the founder and principal advisor of Estet Sepakat. “We see this initiative as a way of bringing in more social value to the farmers beyond aiming to help increase paddy farmers’ income.”

As part of the first phase of this programme, about 25 million paddy farmers across Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries are expected to benefit, which will help them have enough working capital after crop failure seasons. The programme is expected to be launched in April 2022 with the participation of local Takaful companies.

As part of its efforts to aid paddy farmers across ASEAN, Estet Sepakat has also recently penned an MoU with The Policies and Strategies for Social and Economic Development Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit organisation that focuses on the economic and social development of communities in Thailand which includes the Southern border region comprising Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani, Songkhla and Satun provinces with an estimate of 150,000 ha of paddy cultivation.

Through this MoU, both parties will collaborate and jointly identify issues faced by paddy farmers in Southern Thailand and implement formulated solutions. One such issue that Estet Sepakat aims to tackle, similar to in Malaysia, is to help the paddy farmers achieve a higher income by lowering their cultivation costs and improving their paddy production yield.

“The introduction of this collaboration will uplift the agriculture sector immensely, which in the context of Malaysia, is in line with RMK12’s and the National Agrofood Policy 2.0 for 2021-2030 (DAN 2.0) goal of boosting smart agriculture. But beyond that, this product will improve the accessibility that farmers have to traditional banking services and takaful coverage. Financial inclusion is at the core of both Ethis and GlobalSadaqah’s values and is our top priority,” says GlobalSadaqah Chief Executive Officer Ifran Tarmizi.

Besides this, the catalyst of such a product, Badardin says, includes the rice price crisis that occurred in 2007–2008, which created a widespread sense of urgency among policymakers and other rice stakeholders to forge coordinated efforts to avoid a repeat of such an experience.

Furthermore, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with various factors including conflict, socio-economic conditions, natural hazards, climate change and pests, has also resulted in a food security scare. The pandemic has led to severe and widespread increases in global food insecurity, affecting vulnerable households in almost every country, with the negative impact expected to continue through 2021, into 2022, and possibly beyond, according to the World Bank.

Member states of ASEAN play a major role in the global rice market. Over the next decade, the ASEAN region is projected to account for 53% of net exports, 14% of net imports, 29% of harvested area, 25% of total production, and 22% of total rice consumption of the global market. Rice is the major food staple in ASEAN countries and thus plays a significant role in the food security concerns of the region.

At the forefront of the food security cause in Malaysia

Estet Sepakat has launched its equity crowdfunding campaign (ECF) via Ethis Malaysia, the first fully-shariah compliant equity crowdfunding platform approved by the Securities Commission of Malaysia.

This is Estet Sepakat’ maiden investing campaign on an equity crowdfunding platform, and it is raising a minimum of RM1,400,000, offering investors up to a 9% stake in its company.

As part of its exit strategy, the company states that it will target to purchase the shares from investors at the end of year 2 on a first come first serve basis, giving investors a projected 16% yearly capital gain. Collectively and ideally, both the capital gain and the dividend will make up a projected annual ROI of 24% for investors. It intends to explore the possibility of an IPO in its fifth year and is offering an Investment Protection Plan to safeguard its investors.

Empowering Malaysian paddy farmers – the most fragmented player in the farming industry

Estet Sepakat hopes to improve the livelihoods of farmers in Malaysia by building a community of farmers that are data-centric and agri-tech driven. In addition to helping farmers, Estet Sepakat also wants to improve the country’s food security by enhancing the national rice production level.

According to Khazanah Research Institute’s latest report on the paddy and rice industry, farmers in Malaysia earned a household income of RM2,527 a month. This figure is strikingly below the national average of RM6,958 a month and also below the average B40 (bottom 40) income level in Malaysia. This disparity has been attributed to paddy farmers’ being the smallest and most fragmented player in the industry.

Other pressing issues faced by Malaysian farmers include:

                    • Small land size
                    • Low yield
                    • Inclement weather solutions
                    • Poor farm management knowledge and practice

Through these solutions, Estet Sepakat hopes to achieve the following:

                    • Increase paddy farmers’ income from RM2,500 to RM5,000 per month by reducing cultivation cost by 15%, improving paddy yield by 2 tons ha per season and increasing farm sizes to 6.5 ha per farmer.
                    • Increase paddy revenue multi-fold through the expansion of harvesting areas and revenue per ha. The harvesting area will grow at a projection of about 12,000 Ha in year one to about 190,000 Ha in year five.
                    • Increase the national rice production by an additional 400,000 tonnes; Malaysia currently produces 2.7 million tonnes of paddy nationally. This goal is in line with the government’s aim to raise paddy production by up to 75% to meet the country’s needs.
                    • Serve a larger farmer population and land area through BIDARATI’s fleet optimization and management software.
