Eurodance icon Dr. Alban is set to perform his debut concert in Malaysia as part of the Rewind & Play Experience, a nostalgic showcase of 90s music and culture.
Organised by Mojo Projects and Tuff & Loud, the full campaign for the event was unveiled at a press conference earlier today at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, where organisers promised an immersive celebration of the decade that defined a generation.
The concert is scheduled to take place tonight, 23 May at 8pm at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, where fans can expect a high-energy night featuring classic anthems such as It’s My Life and Sing Hallelujah!.
“This isn’t just a show—it’s a journey back to a vibrant era of music, dance, and pure energy. With DJs, dancers, and a few surprises along the way, we’re creating an experience that truly captures the magic of the 90s,” said Mojo Projects chief executive officer Ratna K. Nadarajan.
Dr. Alban himself gave fans a taste of what’s to come.
“What fans could expect is all my hot songs you hear, ‘Mata Oh a Eh’, ‘Hello Africa’, ‘No coke’, ‘It’s my life’, ‘Sing hallelujah’, you can name it. We’re just going to perform them, we have a deejay, we have a backing vocalist, and some dancers, so we’re going to just give you the hit songs,” he said.
The show tonight will be Dr. Alban’s second appearance in Malaysia – he recounted that his first ever performance in Kuala Lumpur took place in the mid-90s, but it was a club show.
He will be joined on stage by backing vocalist Alicia Francke Bocio, and DJ and vocalist Dede Lopez—further elevating the live experience with their powerhouse performances and stage presence.
Honouring a global music legacy
The event also pays tribute to Dr. Alban’s enduring global influence. Born Alban Uzoma Nwapa in Nigeria, he relocated to Sweden at 23 to study dentistry, supporting himself by DJing in Stockholm’s nightclub circuit.
His career took off in 1990 with the release of Hello Afrika, followed by the 1992 global hit It’s My Life, which cemented his place in Eurodance history.
With over 16 million records sold worldwide, Dr. Alban is known for fusing Eurodance, hip-hop, and reggae, creating a signature sound that continues to resonate with fans across generations.

In a message to his Malaysian supporters, Dr. Alban said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to Asia and can’t wait to see you all on the dancefloor. Get ready for an unforgettable night—filled with music, energy, and love.”
Reflecting on his arrival in Malaysia, he shared: “Feels very great, good warm, nice people, and the hospitality is great. Very good.”
Asked about his Malaysian following, he added: “I feel good, I have a lot of people writing from Malaysia to me. I think one or two of them are here (in the press conference), I know Sasi the Don and I did make a duet with Sasi (previously). It’s been great.”
When asked about the back-to-back media appearances since his arrival, he replied simply: “That’s what happens. It’s a routine.”
A celebration beyond music
The Rewind & Play Experience aims to be more than a concert—it is envisioned as a full-fledged cultural celebration. Organisers describe it as a “cultural time capsule” that allows audiences to relive and reconnect with the era that transformed pop music.
With a carefully curated production and a legendary artist at its core, the night promises to deliver not just nostalgia but a celebration that fans will remember for years to come.
